Found mainly in the London Borough of Lambeth, Streatham is a South London district with a population in excess of 55,000 people; according to the 2011 census.
The regeneration of Streatham in recent times, both council led and by private entities, has helped to create a modern destination which is highly popular with people looking for property in this part of London.
There has been a strong influx of people into Streatham in recent years, and this has revitalised the area. There has been significant change with some big names and many local retailers setting up in the area, making Streatham a community with heart and soul.
Streatham and shopping go hand in hand
Shopping has always been synonymous with Streatham. The first supermarket in the country was established here, with Premier Supermarkets (from the Express Dairies chain) setting up in 1951.
That supermarket may be long gone but with M&S Food Hall on Streatham High Road, you can grab everything you need for an excellent meal at home. There is further good news coming in the form of Aldi, which is scheduled to open in January of 2018, taking over in the location that you probably know best as the old Morrison’s supermarket.
With so many places to grab food, you’ll want to increase your exercise levels and thankfully, there is another gym option coming to the heart of Streatham. In fact, this is The Gym and they are located right next to the new Aldi so you can work up a sweat and then make sure you are eating right in one easy move.
Mind you, you don’t want to overdo things on the exercise front, and this is why it is great to know that there are plenty of places where you can indulge yourself. Whether you need a caffeine boost to act as a pick-me-up or a sweet treat to reward yourself for your efforts, there are plenty of options. Café Barcelona is a very popular option, and one that we recommend, and you also have I Love Coffee, and both of these are situated on Streatham High Road. If you’re meeting friends or just have some time to kill, these are fantastic options regarding the small businesses and retailers that are serving the Streatham community with pride…and with lots of caffeine!

Southern offer connections between West Croydon and London Bridge.
