A lot of people focus on health, wealth or their love life when it comes to resolutions, but there is a great deal to be said for focusing on your home. If you want to move home, 2019 could be the year when you make the move. There have been some people waiting on the market to improve for some years, but the reality is, people are moving. At Oaks Estate Agents, we are pleased to say we have helped many homeowners sell their home and if you want to sell in 2019, we are here to help.

We aren’t going to say it will be a straightforward process but with our support, it will be easier than without our help. We are local estate agents and we are pleased to say we have experience in the local property market. We know what buyers are looking for and we know what Streatham has to offer. Therefore, we are ideally placed to help you sell your home, but there are many steps you can take yourself to improve your chances of selling your home.

Check the condition of your home

In winter, low temperatures can be unforgiving to a home that is not in fantastic condition. In summer, cracks and gaps in window and door frames don’t have much of an impact but in winter, they do. When you lose warm air from your home and invite cold air in, you create miserable conditions.

There is also the fact that you waste a lot of heat, so this is likely to increase your energy bills as well as not being environmentally friendly. So, before you place your home on the market, review the insulation of your home. Review your window and door frames to ensure that they are in a suitable condition and if they aren’t, improve them.

You should also consider cavity insulation or even adding insulation in your ceiling area (if applicable) as this will save money in the long-term while making your home welcoming.

Plan the taking down of your tree very carefully

One of the most commonly used phrases when people take down their tree and festive decorations is that the home looks so bare. This is usually said in a negative manner but when it comes to preparing your home for a sale, this is a positive outcome.

You have a chance to clean and declutter your home in an effective manner once you have taken your tree down, and you should capitalise on it. Take the chance to create more space and give your home a thorough clean and you’ll find your home is in fantastic condition by the time you place it on the market in early 2019.

Spend some time outside

There will be some point during the festive break when you are keen to enjoy some fresh air. Perhaps you have had one turkey sandwich too many or you have endured a few box-sets and just need to see daylight.

Why not make the most of this need for fresh air by tending to the outside of your property? Even if you don’t have a garden area, there are plenty of things you can improve. Check the exterior frames of your doors and windows and make sure all paths and driveways are in excellent condition.

You should also clean any guttering at your home. Blocked gutters can cause problems for your home and place it at risk of flooding, so clean your gutters when you get the chance. This will protect your property, but it will also enhance the appearance of your home.

You will hopefully have plenty of time to relax and spend with loved ones over the festive period but if you are looking to sell your home in 2019, planning now is not a bad idea. For the best level of support and guidance, contact Oaks Estate Agents for help.
