2 months before you move home

  • Select a conveyancing solicitor
  • Arrange your mortgage
  • Review the area for local facilities, schools and amenities

6 weeks before you move

  • Get packing material and boxes
  • Get rid of items you are not taking with you
  • Label your boxes with where they will go in your new home

1 month before you move

  • Arrange for a survey to be carried out of your new home
  • Finalise the moving date
  • Inform utility providers of your move

2 weeks before you move

  • Confirm the moving details with the removals company
  • Ensure that you have friends and family on hand to assist with the move

1 week before you move

  • Collate all of your important and vital documents, such as passport, insurance papers, wills, house deeds and valuables and store them in a safe place
  • Create moving day bags and boxes of essential items including toiletries and snacks
  • Make sure that you have finished the packing process
  • Start to carry out a thorough clean of the property
  • Confirm that a mail redirection service is in place
  • Defrost the fridge and freezer
  • Make sure you have sufficient cash on hand to pay for the removal services
  • Inform friends and family members of your new address and/or phone number
  • Arrange a time to collect the keys from the estate agent

1 day before you move

  • Prepare a night bag of items that you will need in the morning
  • Ensure that you have a toolbox or equipment handy to carry out quick repairs

Moving day

  • Record the utility readings before you move out
  • Remove all bedding and curtains
